Online Lotto Sites in Kenya.

Lotto betting is a form of online gambling that involves placing of a wager, to predict the result of a lottery draw. Governments run most of these lotteries, and they make sure that they are stiffly guarded from competition, owing to their capability to bring in huge taxable cash flows. In Kenya, citizens are permitted to bet legally, and are protected by the gambling laws. In fact, the first lottery in the country was created in 1966, after the Gaming Act was passed, paving way for the introduction of the gambling industry. Since then, the industry grew gradually, but it wasn't until the start of the second decade of the 21st century that the industry grew exponentially. Kenya currently ranks 3rd in Africa based on the traffic it generates from its gambling endeavours.

Initially, Kenya lottery and other gambling was modulated by the Ministry of Interior Affairs, but it has since been moved and is now regulated by the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB). As its name suggests, it controls the betting environment and also issues the necessary licensing to the firms that want to have a piece of the multi-million dollar industry.

Some of the Online Kenya lottery include:
  1. 1. Kenya Charity Sweepstake. It is Kenya's first lottery, having been established in 1966, mainly to fund charity causes e.g. fighting illiteracy and poverty. With over 4 billion given in prizes, this lottery also claims to have donated over 760 million to charity. Kenyans can participate in the Kenya Charity Sweepstake online by visiting www.kenyacharity.com and then following the instructions on the website or by going physically to their kiosks.
  2. How to play: From a pool of 36 balls (numbered o to 36), a player picks 6 balls, and waits for the draw to happen (every Wednesday and Saturday at 1600hrs EAT). Depending on how many balls you match, the player can win various prices, and if they match all 6 balls, they win the jackpot.

  3. 2. Lotto Kenya. This is a lottery company that's powered by Oxygen8 East Africa Limited. It is licensed to operate under license number 1095, by the Betting Control and Licensing Board.
  4. It's also involves the selection of a set of numbers from a pool, consisting of 49 balls numbered 0 to 49. This selection can be made online or via SMS, or the player can choose to automatically receive a random set of numbers through the Mobile Money entry route. The Lotto Kenya site is www.mylotto.co.ke

  5. 3. Mega Dollar. It's powered by Lead Games Solutions Limited, licensed and regulated by the BCLB, under the license number 1139.
  6. Just like the first two, a player is required to choose 10 unique numbers from a pool of 1 to 80. The player then waits 4 minutes for the draw after which they can review their tickets online to see if they've won. Mega Dollar is played via sms or on the web by going to www.megadollar.com

Due to the rampant growth of the industry, the Kenyan government has imposed somewhat stiff regulations to control, both the gambling trend of the citizens, and the number of firms operating in the nations. Just recently, it increased operators' taxes by 15% i.e. from 20% to 35%. This has left many operators unable to operate due to their incapability to pay the 35% corporate tax. Furthermore, these operators are obligated, by the law, to donate 20% of all their revenue to a worthy cause.
